Blue Denali may strike some as an unusual name for a forum, so, because I like elaborating on things, I will elaborate on this.

I like Blue. It's my favorite color. It is also a very calming color, one of serenity, and peace. It's the color of water, and of the sky; two things which have long dominated the minds of men.

Denali (that awe-inspiring mountain at the top of the page) is also known as Mount McKinley, the largest mountain on the North American continent, standing at a height of approximately 20,320 feet (6,194 m) above sea level.

Denali is actually taller than Mount Everest, when one considers their actual rises (Everest's base sits on the Tibetan Plateau at about 17,000 feet (5,200 m), giving it a real vertical rise of a little more than 12,000 feet (3,700 m). The base of Mount McKinley is roughly a 2,000-foot (610 meter) elevation, giving it an actual rise of 18,000 feet (5,500 m), making Denali the taller mountain. It also doesn't cheat to get where it is)

It is steeped in legend and lore in Alaska, the land of my birth, and is known by many other names among the native people of my state.

The local Koyukon Athabaskan name for the mountain, the name used by the Native Americans with access to the flanks of the mountain (living in the Yukon, Tanana and Kuskokwim basins), is Dinale or Denali ("the high one").

To the South the Dena’ina people in the Susitna river valley used the name Dghelay Ka’a, meaning "the big mountain", while the seafaring Aleuts called it Traleika.

The mountain is totally deserving of that name. The Mountain of Denali is a truly imposing and mighty image, one of a giant pillar of rock thrusting into the sky. It is truly majestic, and a symbol to me of the might of mother nature.

So, when deciding upon a new, permanent name for the forum, I thought of Denali. But, Denali, while wholesome and majestic all on its own, just doesn't carry the verbal "oomph" to sufficiently name a forum.

And then I found the visual theme the forum uses at this moment, Cobalt 2.0. It's very blue, as you have noticed.

Blue. That was what I needed.

Hence, Blue Denali.

And now you know a little more than you knew yesterday.

I welcome you to the forum, and hope that you will enjoy your visit.

Are you sure this will be the last name change, Denali? (Argh, feels weird calling you that.)

I was perfectly fine with The Cruel Angels Lair, then I was fine with Evil Space Chickens, then I was okay with Evil Latte, and now this is just grating on my nerves.

BTW, settle on a username already. Just FYI.

Quit griping Spirit! I think Blue Denali is a lovely iteration of the forum. With a change this huge (it doesn't look a bit like anything it's ever been, or didn't you notice?), the name changes are well merited.

But... but griping is my reason for living! How can you take that away from me?!

Half-joking. Heheh. Seriously, though, it's not the name that bothers me. It's the roller coaster ride itself, y'hear? If this is the last one, great.

It'll be the last major change this year. I try not to overhaul things too often, but the previous theme of the forum was too off-putting, so I decided to redo the forum in a more generally pleasing manner.

You did great.

OT: nice tidbits about Denali. I enjoyed reading this.

Of such great powers or beings there may be conceivably a survival... a survival of a hugely remote period when... consciousness was manifested, perhaps, in shapes and forms long since withdrawn before the tide of advancing humanity... forms of which poetry and legend alone have caught a flying memory and called them gods, monsters, mythical beings of all sorts and kinds...
