I've been doing some thinking, and I realized that Soul Calibur really set the bar when it arrived for the Dreamcast. True, Tekken is okay, Dead or Alive can be decent, and of course, Dragon Ball Z Budoukai refuses to die for some reason.
But Soul Calibur is a true gem of a series.
Like every fighting game, it has a few flashy combos for each character, over the top design, and is constantly pushing graphics (Bleach: Shattered Blade notwithstanding). But unlike other series, it consistantly features great music, superb console-pushing graphics, smooth controls, and a certain secret ingredient that makes it so that once the game takes hold, like the evil Soul Edge, it never lets go.
I am so glad Soul Calibur is not simply another animu fighting game. Because that would ruin everything I have come to adore about this series. _________________ Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. | It is an AMAZING series. I've already lost over 120 hours of my life on Soul Calibur 2 alone. |

Soul Calibur is in every way the definative fighting game franchise. Things have kind of died in other franchises recenly; I haven't heard of a new Tekken yet, DBZ is being quiet (for once), and of course there's about 80k Naruto fighting games in production right now, but really, who cares about Naruturds?
Although... Dead or Alive is apparently coming out with two sequels set prior to the first game, exploring Kasumi and Ayane's pasts. And with Itagaki gone, it just might be good and NOT JUST endless bouncing mammories.
But, I digress. It was awesome to see Soul Calibur IV on my Xbox 360 at long last. It actually was so good, I forgot Legends even existed. Until I put SCIV away, and saw Legends in my collection. -_- _________________ "I must not fear. Fear is the Mind Killer. Soul Calibur is truly awesome. I was introduced to it when I played Soul Calibur II in the arcade. And later, I saw it at Best Buy for the Gamecube and decided, "Well, it was so much fun in the arcade... so I might as well..."

It is true that when anme styled fighting games are being released at the rate of one every five minutes, the Soul Calibur crew spend YEARS working on a absolute quality product that will be sure to keep you occupied for years, until the next title.
Here's hoping for a Soul Calibur 5! |

Soul Calibur is indeed awesome. Hell, I've clocked more hours on SoulCalibur for the Dreamcast than any other fighting game! _________________ I am a warrior. I fight for the Mother Moon, whose dark light shines a pale beauty upon our eternal land. Shine on Moon, and show your children the way...
Of such great powers or beings there may be conceivably a survival... a survival of a hugely remote period when... consciousness was manifested, perhaps, in shapes and forms long since withdrawn before the tide of advancing humanity... forms of which poetry and legend alone have caught a flying memory and called them gods, monsters, mythical beings of all sorts and kinds...
