I blame her. Why? Because she made having a trenchcoat pretty much a prerequisite for being a Castlevania Hero. Let's look at this:

Richter SOTN and DXC
Leon
Trevor CoD
Julius Belmont
Soma Cruz
Jonathan Morris
Desmond Belmont (YES. I BRING HIM UP.)

Granted, not all of these are her designs, but having a trenchcoat is the standard now. Personally, I like Alucard's billowy cape. It's so much cooler.

Nathan Graves? His outfit was awesome. Reinhardt Schneider had the cool "biker/rebel" thing going in CV64. Richter's Rondo of Blood outfit continues to be swanked out, Simon's Chronicles look was BADASS, and Hector's outfit was the most awesomely designed outfit a protagonist in CV has ever had.

There can be an awesome character design without a trenchcoat. Konami needs to stop "appealing to teh phat youth" and putting trenchcoats on their leads, and START soming up with something original again. Ayami designed Hector. She can do it. I know she can.

Of such great powers or beings there may be conceivably a survival... a survival of a hugely remote period when... consciousness was manifested, perhaps, in shapes and forms long since withdrawn before the tide of advancing humanity... forms of which poetry and legend alone have caught a flying memory and called them gods, monsters, mythical beings of all sorts and kinds...

I don't think trenchcoats are "appealing to the phat youth". Personally, I like all the trenchcoat designs. Desmond shouldn't even be accounted for.

If you think about it, an Alucard-like costume for a Belmont would be pretty inappropriate and stupid.

Besides, trenchcoats are just the same as the short armour of the past (like Successor says in his IGA article). Every Belmont has them, except they're more dignified. I believe there's enough variety with the trenchcoats so that they aren't boring or repetitive.

Armor like Henry Oldrey's should come back. Also, Hector's fit was awesome.

Trenchcoats would logically be a hindrance in a demon castle. It would be too easy for something to grab onto it.

I'd love to see an Indy-style jacket pop up!

And since when was logic an important part of video games?

I rest my case.

Well, there DOES need to be a certain amount of logic present in order for the game to make sense, but that's neither here nor there.

As much as I like some of the coat designs, they're repetitive. I'm kinda glad she's not doing the art for OoE. Confused

I really wouldn't mind a complete overhaul on the Castlevania team. When you have constant members working on the games, there's a certain sameness that they share, and I doubt anyone would argue with me on the fact that the games since Symphony have had that sameness.

Part of what made a lot of the older games so different from each other was the constantly shifting team members.
